☆ Iconography & things ☆

On this page, we'll go over the icons used on the site's characters' cards in detail. It's opened as a new tab or window for you, so feel free to close it when you're done! All this information is given to fans through official media such as the pop'n art books or the character cards won from playing the game. We will try to translate each profile eventually.

First things first, the following:

Character birthdays could be based on many different things, but usually its speculated that they relate to wordplay on their names, their namesake, or official dates of certain media related to them. For example Mimi's birthday is "March 3rd" because "3/3" can be read as "mimi" in Japanese, to be brief. For simplicity sake, we will not be able to go over the all the possible references for each character, but it's definitely something of interest to keep in mind!

Character birthplaces are more often made up, but they can also be real world locations. The general consensus is that the world of pop'n is like our own world as we know it, while including the fantasy lands either on it or elsewhere. The details aren't totally clear, but seeing how these places may connect can be explored in the pop'n portable games or viewing the proposed map introduced in pop'n music CARNIVAL.

Character hobbies, their favorite thing, and dislikes may sometimes be niche references related to character namesakes and whatnot. But it's pretty straightforward, just like their associated songs. Speaking of which, we may not list every associated song for a character, should they have multiple, just to keep the structure of the page consistent.

The apple in the background for each character represents their gender; red is female, green is male, multicolor is for everything else. We use this wording because the multicolor apple has been used for a plethora of reasons unrelated to gender, but official statements for each character haven't been given, so the following reasons can be used as speculation. Also note that for this website the multicolored apple is used by default or when the true apple color is unknown because an official card for the character has not been made. Your patience is appreciated while we make corrections over time.

In the world of pop'n music, there are characters who are just little critters where their gender don't really matter. Some characters like flowflow, are given a multicolored apple despite officially being referred to as a girl, to add to their lore. It's possible the apple references how her physical body is being projected as a hologram. For characters who are apart of a pair or group, like Pierre & Jill (Pierre is male and Jill is female), the apple represents their opposing genders. Lastly, LGBT+ characters are given this apple as well. Honey is implied to be either a drag queen or a transwoman, Castle is nonbinary, and more.

We will not be able to go over every plausible explanation for each character, but most of the multicolored apple usage is pretty straightforward (maybe some day we'll go over specific characters in detail because some characters are legitimately LGBT+ and it's really fun). Anyway, hope this all helps!
